Colombia win Bolivarian Games gold medal after walk-off victory over Peru
Colombia captured the gold medal in the Bolivarian Games baseball tournament after a dramatic 6–5 walk-off win over Peru. The event was held at the Villa María del Triunfo complex, venue of the baseball competition during the Lima 2019 Pan American Games.
Peru jumped out to a 4–1 lead in the third inning, but Colombia steadily battled back to tie the game in the fourth. The score remained deadlocked until extra innings.
Peru regained the lead in the top of the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Joaquín Vélez, going ahead 5–4. Colombia, however, mounted one final rally in the bottom half of the inning. With the bases loaded and no outs, the tying run scored on a wild pitch. Moments later, Fabián Pertuz delivered a walk-off single to clinch the 6–5 win and secure the gold medal for Colombia.
Pertuz finished 1-for-3 with two RBIs, while Tito Polo went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Ezequiel Zabaleta picked up the win, allowing one hit and one earned run with two strikeouts in one inning of work.
Venezuela and Curaçao shared the bronze medal, with Ecuador finishing fifth and El Salvador sixth.
