Report: Senga Wants To Stay With The Mets
Kodai Senga, who is subject to trade rumors, wants to stay with the New York Mets. This reported by Will Sammon of the Athletic Sunday afternoon.
Senga does not have any type of no-trade clause, so the decision on if he is moved or not is not up to him. The 32-year-old is under contract through 2027 and is owed $28 million over the next two seasons.
Senga struggled mightily this past season after returning from injury, posting a 6.56 ERA and allowed a .918 OPS in the second half. He was lights out prior to injured list stint for a hamstring issue, leading the National League in ERA, albeit with some shaky underlying metrics. However, he struggled so much in the second part of the season he was demoted to Triple-A Syracuse toward the end of the year.
Senga’s All-Star 2023 season surely has teams still interested in his services. According to Sammon, teams look at him as a buy-low candidate which is why he has been subject to interest this offseason.
Only time will tell what happens to the Japanese starting pitcher, but, if it was up to him, it seems like he would certainly like to try to bounce back in New York with the Mets in 2026.
