WBSC Premier12 star Shohei Ohtani wins fourth MLB MVP Award
International baseball superstar Shohei Ohtani won a unanimous vote, securing his second consecutive National League MVP Award. The Los Angeles Dodgers' two-way phenom received 30 first-place votes out of 30, while second-place finisher Kyle Schwarber (Philadelphia Phillies) received 23 second-place votes.
In the 2025 regular season, Ohtani played 158 games, going 172-for-611 (a .282 batting average) with 55 home runs and 102 runs batted in (RBIs). He also stole 20 bases. Ohtani also started 14 games as a pitcher, posting a 1-1 record and a 2.87 earned run average (ERA) in 47 innings. He allowed 40 hits and nine walks, while striking out 62.
It is the 10th time the National League voted its MVP unanimously. The last had been Ronald Acuna Jr in 2023, the year when Ohtani won his second American League MVP Award with the Angels. Ohtani also won the American League MVP Award in 2021. In both cases, he won a unanimous ballot.
With his fourth MVP Award, Ohtani ranks second all-time after Barry Bonds, who won seven MVP Awards (all in the National League), including four consecutive times (2001-2004).
WBSC alums Geraldo Perdomo (Arizona Diamondbacks, Dominican Republic) and Pete Crow-Armstrong (Chicago Cubs, USA) also received votes in the National League ballot.
The New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge won the American League MVP Award in a tight race with Cal Raleigh (Seattle Mariners). Judge had 17 first-placer votes and 13 second-place, while Raleigh had 13 first-place and 17 second-place votes. It's the second consecutive American League MVP Award for Judge, his third overall.
Judge played 152 games in the 2025 regular season. He posted a .331 batting average (179-for-541) with 53 home runs and 114 RBIs and drew 124 walks. He played 95 games in right field, committing just one error, and 56 at DH.
Ohtani and Judge also repeated as Hank Aaron Award winners and feature on the All-MLB First Team
