Four WBSC disciplines to feature at Bangkok 2025 Southeast Asian Games

The 33rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, set to take place in Bangkok, Thailand, from 9 to 20 December 2025, will mark a historic milestone for the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) as four of its disciplines are included in the official sports programme for the first time: Men’s Baseball, Women’s Softball, Men’s Softball and Baseball5.

This will also be the first time since the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games that four WBSC disciplines will award medals in a single multi-sport event — demonstrating the growing reach and diversity of WBSC’s global disciplines.

Following the model successfully implemented at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, both baseball and softball will share the same competition venue using the Baseball Softball Stadium at the Queen Sirikit Sports Center in Pathum Thani province, approximately 50 km from central Bangkok. This shared facility highlights the organisers’ commitment to efficiency and cost-effective management.

All four competitions will be played under the same competition system. The teams will play a single round robin, with the top two teams in the standings advancing to the Gold Medal Game. The third and fourth-placed teams will meet for the bronze medal. 

With seven participating teams, Men's Baseball will be played from 5 to 12 December, starting the action four days ahead of the Opening Ceremony. Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam are slated to participate in the competition.

From 11 to 14 December, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam will take part in the Baseball5 competition, marking the WBSC's urban discipline's debut in an official "open" multi-sport event after Baseball5** featured at the Youth Bolivarian Games Sucre 2024. The event will be played at the multi-purpose hall in the Sports Authority of Thailand Sports Complex in Ramkhamhaeng, Bangkok.

The Men's and Women's Softball Competition will take place from 15 to 19 December. Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand will compete in the men's event; while Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand will participate in the female competition. 

The SEA Games, held every two years, are contested by the National Olympic Committees of the 11 Southeast Asian nations: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam.

This broad representation in the sports programme underlines the growing impact of WBSC disciplines in the region, whilst reinforcing the Confederation’s commitment to expansion and accessibility of Baseball/Softball around the world.

** In 2026, Baseball5 will feature at the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal and will also be a demonstration sport at the Mediterranean Games.
