Phillies extend qualifying offers to Schwarber, Suárez
The Phillies have extended qualifying offers to designated hitter Kyle Schwarber and left-handed pitcher Ranger Suárez, according to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand.
The qualifying offer is a one-year, $22.025 million contract for 2026. The amount is calculated based on the average salary of the 125 high-paid players in the league in 2025. Players have until Nov. 18 to accept or reject the qualifying offer.
Both Schwarber and Suárez are expected to reject the offer. If either signs elsewhere, the Phillies will receive a 2026 compensatory fourth-round draft pick. The Phillies will lose their second- and fifth-highest selections in the 2026 MLB Draft along with $500,000 in international bonus pool money if they sign a free agent who was with another team in 2025 that has a qualifying offer attached.
J.T. Realmuto was not eligible to receive a qualifying offer. He was previously offered one by the Phillies at the end of 2020 season. Harrison Bader was also not eligible for a qualifying offer as he was traded midseason.
Free agents can officially begin signing with other clubs as of 5 p.m. ET on Thursday.
Schwarber and Suárez are expected to be two of the top free agents in this year’s class.
