Alonso, Soto Take Home Silver Sluggers
Juan Soto and Pete Alonso have won Silver Sluggers for the 2025 season. This is the first Silver Slugger for Alonso, who won the honor over Freddie Freeman and Matt Olson, while Soto earns the honor for the sixth time in his career. Francisco Lindor was a finalist for the shortstop honor, but he was upended by Arizona’s Geraldo Perdomo.
Alonso bounced back in a big way from a disappointing 2024 season, batting .272/.347/.524 with 38 homers, 126 RBIs, and a career-high 41 doubles in 709 plate appearances. He tied Olson for the National League lead in doubles while ranking second in RBIs, fourth in home runs, fifth in slugging percentage, and sixth in OPS. Alonso also appeared in all 162 games for the second straight season.
As for Soto, he batted .293/.396/.525 with a career-high 43 homers and a Mets franchise record 127 walks in 715 plate appearances. Soto also swiped a career-high 38 bases in 42 tries. Soto led the majors in walks and led the NL in on-base percentage while ranking third in homers, OPS, and RBIs, and second in runs scored. He tied Oneil Cruz for the league lead in steals.
