VIKING CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS EARN REGIONAL RUNNER-UP TITLES AT NJCAA REGION 2 CHAMPIONSHIP

POTEAU, OKLA. – The Carl Albert State College Viking Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams brought home impressive finishes from the NJCAA Region 2 Championship held October 25 in Northwest Arkansas. Despite cold, wet, and challenging race conditions, both teams rose to the occasion—each earning the title of Regional Runner-Up.

Viking Women Shine with Record-Breaking Performance

The Viking women’s team turned in a standout performance, highlighted by a record-breaking run from Lindsey Wortham, who finished second overall with a time of 19:07, setting a new CASC women’s 5K record. This is the fastest time ever recorded by a Viking woman, showcasing Wortham’s hard work and dedication throughout the season.

“The women’s team continues to impress us with their growth and competitiveness this year,” said Head Coach Kristin Snyder. “Lindsey’s record-breaking run is a testament to her effort and the team’s determination to improve with every race.”

Viking Men Earn Regional Runner-Up Title

The Viking men also delivered a strong performance, earning the Regional Runner-Up title. Alex Martinez led the Vikings with a fifth-place finish, completing the 8K course in 27:54.

Looking Ahead to Nationals

Both Viking teams have qualified for the NJCAA National Championship, set for November 8 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. With strong momentum and record-breaking performances behind them, the Vikings are ready to represent Carl Albert State College on the national stage.

“Both our men’s and women’s teams have shown incredible discipline and drive this season,” said CASC President Dr. Jay Falkner. “Their success is a reflection of the Viking spirit—hard work, perseverance, and pride. We couldn’t be prouder of how they represent Carl Albert State College.”
