Alex Rodriguez Advised an NFL Superstar to Pursue Baseball Instead

Alex Rodriguez recently revealed that he once advised NFL superstar Patrick Mahomes to consider a career in baseball instead of football. The Hall of Famer and former Yankees slugger told the story during an interview with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show.

Mahomes has dominated the football field for eight seasons after being drafted as a quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2018. But Rodriguez, also known as A-Rod, had other plans for Mahomes when he was a kid.

A-Rod used to be teammates with Mahomes' father, Patrick Mahomes Sr., when they were teammates for the Texas Rangers. He remembers Mahome as a kid in the batting cages and being a "respectful kid."

Mahome, who was 10 at the time, would pester A-Rod for baseball advice until one day he decided to finally give him some wisdom.

"I know you like baseball, and I know you like football," he told Mahomes.

"But trust me when I say this, baseball is where the money is. Football is just for fun, but you're gonna make your money in baseball like your dad and I!"

A-Rod even recounts his own story of his mother telling him something very similar when he was a child. Like Mahomes, A-Rod also dabbled in football having played when he was in high school before pursuing baseball.

Mahome clearly didn't follow A-Rod's advice and had the opposite sports life, pursuing a wildly successful career on the gridiron instead.

Since being drafted, Mahome has won three Super Bowls as part of the Kansas City Chiefs. He's also won MVPs and multiple awards like Pro Bowls, All-Pro teams, and more.

On the other hand, his father was a pitcher for the MLB from 1988 to 1997. He pitched for teams including the Minnesota Twins, Boston Red Sox, and the New York Mets.
