Mets Re-Sign Richard Lovelady
The World Series has yet to begin, but the Mets have already gotten a start on building their roster for 2026. The team has inked Richard Lovelady to a one-year major league contract.
Lovelady was one of the many members of the team’s bullpen carousel this past season. He joined the team in June and made two appearances, only to be designated for assignment two days after he was signed.
The Mets added him back to the major league roster, and he pitched in four games in July before being sent to Triple-A Syracuse. Lovelady was called back up in September, pitched two more outings, and was then DFA’d one last time.
Lovelady pitched to a 6.30 ERA in his ten innings as a Met. In four of his eight games pitched, he got more than three outs.
The Mets have plenty of bullpen pieces that need to be filled, with Ryan Helsley, Tyler Rogers, Ryne Stanek and Gregory Soto all heading to free agency. All-Star closer Edwin Díaz also has a player option that he may decline.
The team does appear to already have some left-handed options out of the pen, though. In addition to Lovelady, the Mets have a $4 million option for Brooks Raley, who had a stellar return from injury in 2025. A.J. Minter has a $11 million player option for 2026, and coming off missing most of the season due to a left lat injury, he would be a likely candidate to accept that option.
