Mets Add Lefty On Minor League Deal

0 3

According to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, the New York Mets have agreed to a minor league deal with 30-year-old lefty Joe Jacques. The New Jersey native will receive a major league camp invite and could earn a pro-rated $800,000 if he’s called up to the bigs.

Originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 33rd round of the 2018 draft, Jacques last appeared in an MLB game for the Diamondbacks in July of 2024. In total, Jacques has pitched 29 ⅔ innings in the bigs, with all but three of those innings coming for the Red Sox in 2023. He has yet to gain any traction at the big league level with a career 5.46 ERA and 1.652 WHIP.

Despite limited major league results, Jacques has shown flashes of effectiveness in the minors. The most success Jacques has found as a professional was his Triple-performance for the Pirates in 2022 and the Red Sox in 2023.

  • 2022: 43 and ⅓ innings, 3.12 ERA, 1.177 WHIP, 7.3 K/9
  • 2023: 39 innings, 2.54 ERA, 1.154 WHIP, 8.1 K/9

Jacques spent 2025 in the Pacific Coastal League splitting time between the Dodgers’ Triple-A affiliate in Oklahoma City and the Mariners’ affiliate in Tacoma. For the year, he threw 52 and ⅓ innings, resulting in a 6.02 ERA, 1.662 WHIP, 11 H/9, 4 BB/9, and 10.5 K/9.

Jacques will likely be a part of a Triple-A Syracuse group that the Mets will look to develop as depth for the major league pen in 2026. For now, Jacques represents a low-risk depth addition with some Triple-A upside.
