Olympian Yuruby Alicart named Peru Women's National Softball Team head coach
The Peruvian Softball Federation has announced Yuruby Alicart as the new head coach of the Women’s National Softball Team. Among her first challenges, Venezuelan Alicart will lead Peru at the Bolivarian Games and the WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Group B, scheduled to be played in Lima from 21 to 26 July 2026.
Peru, currently ranked No. 18 in the WBSC Women’s Softball World Ranking, will make its second appearance in the Women’s Softball World Cup after finishing 21st in Surrey 2016.
Alicart was part of Venezuela’s golden generation - alongside Maria Soto, Mariangee Bogado and Denise Fuenmayor — that qualified the nation for its first and only Olympic Games in 2008. The group also finished fifth at the 2010 Women’s Softball World Cup in Caracas and earned the silver medal at the Rio 2007 Pan American Games. Alicart hit .333 with a home run during the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
In addition to her new national team role, Alicart serves as head coach of Charros de Jalisco in the Mexican Softball League, a position she was appointed to in June.
