Morning Briefing: Mets Wild Card Lead Continues to Shrink

Good morning, Mets fans!

The Mets dropped their fifth game in a row last night as they fell by a score of 11-3, losing the first three games of their four-game set in Philadelphia. Clay Holmes failed to get out of the fifth inning yet again, as he was not helped by a quiet offensive performance. For a full recap of Wednesday night’s game, click here!

Luckily enough for New York, the Giants fell to the Diamondbacks on Wednesday night, keeping them two games ahead of San Francisco with an extra buffer as they hold the tie-breaker. However, the Reds kept closer with their win over the San Diego Padres, now only trailing by two games and having the tie-breaker over the Mets.

David Peterson (9-5, 3.72 ERA) will look to help the Mets avoid a four-game sweep as he will face Jesús Luzardo (13-6, 4.01 ERA) in the series finale at 7:15 PM in Philly.
