Morning Briefing: Tylor Megill Shut Down Again

0 94

Good morning, Mets fans!

Mets beat writer Anthony DiComo shared some news concerning SP Tylor Megill. Megill has been sidelined again this season due to tightness in his arm. He’s scheduled for an MRI to determine the extent of his injury. This setback puts Megill’s season at risk.

This season has been particularly challenging for Megill, as he has not pitched in the majors since June. If his season is truly over with this latest setback, he finishes with a record of 5-5 and a 3.95 ERA.

The Mets were shut out by the Phillies in the series opener Monday, 1-0. The Mets’ chances at the division were already slim-to-none, and now they’re effectively over. The Phillies lead the Mets by eight games in the NL East.

Nolan McLean was good (5 1/3 IP, 7 H, R, 3 BB, 5 K) but Aaron Nola was better (6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 7 K). Read more here.

Game 2 is set for Tuesday at 6:45 p.m. ET with Sean Manaea (1-2, 5.60 ERA) facing Ranger Suárez (11-6, 2.89 ERA).

The Padres, meanwhile, walked off the Reds 4-3 in 10 innings. San Diego improved to three games ahead of the Mets for the second Wild Card, while Cincinnati fell to four games back.

The Giants beat the Diamondbacks 11-5, so they jumped in front of the Reds by a game. They trail the Mets by three games.
