AUSTIN (KXAN) — It might not have the same stakes as a typical baseball game, but the competitive juices will be flowing hard at Dell Diamond when the Texas Longhorns and Texas Tech Red Raiders meet Sept. 27 for a fall scrimmage.

The former Big 12 Conference rivals will play a 12-inning game at 1 p.m. on the home field of the Round Rock Express, the Triple-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers. Tickets range from $11-$60 and can be purchased at the Express' website.

The defending Southeastern Conference regular-season champion Longhorns will take on Lamar at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 3 at UFCU Disch-Falk Field to round out the fall scrimmage slate. Admission for that game will be free, giving fans an easy way to catch a glimpse of the Longhorns' top-flight pitching staff returning to the 40 Acres, along with a loaded transfer recruiting class that includes All-American catcher Carson Tinney.

Texas finished 44-14 last season in Schlossnagle's first season, and 22-8 in the SEC en route to the regular season title. However, the Longhorns stumbled in the postseason, losing to UTSA twice in the Austin Regional, eliminating them from the NCAA Tournament.

For 2026, the Longhorns are currently scheduled to play in the Astros Foundation College Classic Feb. 27-March 1, taking on 2025 national runner-up Coastal Carolina along with Baylor and Ohio State.
