Mets Minors Recap: Jett Williams Has Big Day For Syracuse

Brandon Sproat had his first bad outing in over two months in a Syracuse loss, Jacob Reimer powered Binghamton to a victory, Brooklyn split its doubleheader and St. Lucie stole eight bases in its win.

Triple-A

Williams has taken to Triple-A well, notching hits in four of his first 11 at-bats, including a double and a home run. The trio of recently-promoted Mets position players have all adapted well to Syracuse and will definitely aid it in its playoff push.

• RHP Brandon Sproat (4.40 ERA) 3 1/3 IP, 3 H, 6 R (5 ER), 3 BB, 6 K (50 of 90 pitches for strikes)

Sproat had his worst outing since June 22, failing to get out of the fourth inning. He did not have great control and allowed five earned runs despite only allowing three hits, none of which were home runs. Despite this start, with the struggles in the big-league rotation, he still may be the next name called up in the event they need a new starter.

Double-A

After some early season struggles, Parada has turned his year around, slashing .253/.321/.435 with 30 of his 68 hits going for extra bases. Reimer has also acclimated quite well and had himself his first four-hit game in Double-A. Defensively, however, he has been rough, committing three errors on Thursday.

• RHP R.J. Gordon (3.97 ERA) 4 2/3 IP, 5 H, 6 R (1 ER), 3 BB, 8 K, 1 HR allowed (54 of 90 pitches for strikes)
• RHP Ryan Lambert (2.23 ERA) 1 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 2 K

Gordon was victimized by some poor defense, with five unearned runs being allowed while he was pitching. Despite this, he still struck out eight batters. Lambert continues to mow down hitters but has been hit harder and walked more hitters since his promotion.

High-A

Brooklyn Cyclones (63-47) 6, Hub City Spartanburgers (54-56) 3/ 7 INNINGS

Vargas hit his first home run of the 2025 season for Brooklyn, and despite his overall numbers, he has put together a solid season that’s mostly been uninterrupted by injuries. Vargas still has strong plate discipline and a utility profile, but he will need to put some of those doubles in the seats to fully capitalize on his potential. Only 15 of his 89 hits this season have gone for extra bases across two levels. Serrano had two outfield assists, showing off his strong arm.

• RHP Noah Hall (2.20 ERA) 3 1/3 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 5 K (43 of 71 pitches for strikes)

Hall was very hittable against Hub City, needing 71 pitches to get himself into the fourth inning. Still, he has put together a very solid first full professional season.

Brooklyn Cyclones (64-47) 2, Hub City Spartanburgers (54-55) 5

In game two, the Cyclones managed three extra base hits but could only get two runners to cross home plate. Ronald Hernandez went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a double, possibly becoming the best player the Mets received in the 2023 David Robertson trade.

• RHP Franklin Gomez (2.03 ERA) 5 IP, 5 H, 5 R (1 ER) 2 BB, 5 K

Gomez was solid, but the defense behind him was not – four unearned runs were allowed, which would be the deciding factor in the game. Hoss Brewer has allowed a .235 batting average since his promotion, but is still striking out nearly a batter an inning.

Low-A

St. Lucie Mets (67-43) 6, Jupiter Hammerheads (48-63) 4

St. Lucie was running with reckless abandon on Thursday, stealing eight bases while only being caught once. Voit has struggled with the bat, but has made his presence known by swiping nine bags.

• RHP Jonathan Jimenez (1.26 ERA) 4 IP, 4 H, 2 R (1 ER), 1 BB, 4 K (37 of 54 pitches for strikes)

Jimenez has been sneaky good, striking out nearly a batter an inning while keeping the walks down. Omar Victorino has struck out 48 in 51 2/3 innings, but has walked 30.

Dominican Summer League

DSL Mets Orange (28-24) 3, DSL Arizona Red (31-21) 9

Elian Peña went 0-for-2 with a strikeout and was caught stealing, catcher Yovanny Rodriguez went 0-for-1 with a walk and second baseman Yunior Amparo went 0-for-2. RHP Deivy Victora struck out three in two innings of work.

DSL Mets Blue (18-34) 9, DSL Cardinals (27-25) 0

RHP Aurelvys Batista struck out four in 1 2/3 innings and RHP Yobanny Sanchez struck out four in four hitless innings. SS Giomar Ubiera went 2-for-2 with two runs scored, an RBI, two walks and a stolen base. Rightfielder Alex Acosta went 3-for-4 with a run, two RBIs and a stolen base.
