The Offense Was Anemic In Philly

0 3

The Baltimore Orioles were shutout 5-0 by the Philadelphia Phillies (65-48) at Citizens Bank Park on Tuesdat night. Limited to five hits on the night, the Orioles have now been held scoreless for sixteen straight innings. All five of Baltimore’s hits were singles and it wasn’t until the ninth inning that the team got a runner into scoring position. “It wasn’t our best night swinging the bats” Interim Manager Tony Mansolino said after the game.

On Monday it was the bullpen that imploded and on Tuesday it was the offense that couldn’t get going. Talk about the “young core” all you want, this team is simply a shell of itself. At first blush there is no fire or urgency. In fact the team seems defeated once to opposition takes the lead.

Jordan Westburg went 2 for 3 and was hit by a pitch. Adley Rutschman, Coby Mayo and Jeremiah Jackson recored the remaining Orioles hits. In fact, Jackson found himself picked off sirst to end the second inning.

Dean Kremer (8-8) gave the team six innings but did take the loss. He allowed 4 runs on 8 hits with a walk and 6 strikeouts. Philly did the bulk of the damage against Kremer in the second inning. With one out Nick Castellanos singled and scored on a Brandon Marsh double. Max Kepler then homered to right-center to stake Philadelphia to a 3-0 lead.

The Phillies added on in the fourth inning on a Bryson Stott RBI triple.

For the second consecutive night, reliever Yaramil Hiraldo gave up a homerun to the Phillies. Tonight it was a solo shot off the bat of Marsh in the eighth.

Baltimore is simply not playing well and frankly it is unknown what will change that in the near future.
