Edwin Díaz Named NL Reliever of the Month for July

0 1

Edwin Díaz has been named the National League Reliever of the Month for July. Díaz converted seven of his eight save opportunities during the month, not allowing an earned run over 11 innings. He allowed just four hits and walks, while striking out 18 of the 43 batters he faced. He also appeared in the All-Star Game in Atlanta, his third Midsummer Classic selection. The Angels’ Kenley Jansen took home American League honors.

For Díaz, this is the second time this season he’s taken home the award, having previously won it in May. It’s the 10th time he’s won it in his career, the most of any pitcher since it came to be in 2005, according to Anthony DiComo on MLB.com.

Claiming the rest of the hardware in the National League are Player of the Month Kyle Stowers, Pitcher of the Month Paul Skenes, and Rookie of the Month Isaac Collins. In the American League, the Athletics’ Nick Kurtz took him Player and Rookie of the Month honors, while Nathan Eovaldi won Pitcher of the Month.
