USA-Japan 8-0
The defending World Champions made an early stand with a five-run rally against starter Riku Sahashi. Nolan Hatch led off bunting for the hit and Kristian Valadez homered on the second pitch he saw.
Sahashi, who was also plagued by an error, got only two outs. He left after allowing five hits and five runs, three earned.
Duncan Mount allowed only one hit and three walks over 2.2 innings of work. He couldn't finish the third inning because of a heavy thunderstorm. As the game resumed after 90 minutes, the USA opened the score with three runs on four hits, including a double by Christopher Chikodroff.
Mount didn't return to the mound after the rain delay. Brock Bliss also pitched 2.2 innings, allowing only two hits. Mason Bitzenhofer took care of the final two outs.
