Francisco Alvarez Leaves Game With Injury

0 6

Francisco Alvarez was taken out of Wednesday’s series finale against the Padres after he was hit in the side of his catcher’s mask by a check-swing foul ball by Martin Maldonado.

The play happened in the fifth inning. Alvarez finished the inning behind the plate, but was replaced by Luis Torrens to start the bottom of the sixth.

Alvarez was playing in his seventh game since his return from his stint in Triple-A. The Mets starting catcher found his power stroke in the minors and had brought his bat with him back to the big leagues.

During his comeback, Alvarez had been slashing .316/.458/.684 heading into Wednesday,  and coupled with the upticks from the likes of Mark Vientos and Ronny Mauricio, the Mets offense has done enough to put together wins, despite the now-extended struggles from Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso.

If Alvarez were to miss any time, or have his better play of late neutered by this injury, it would be a tough break for a team trying to put it all together offensively.
