White Sox Minor League Update: July 29, 2025
It was a Knightmare in Charlotte, but the Barons blank the Trash Pandas in extras as the affiliates have a winning evening overall, going 3-for-5
Rochester Red Wings 16, Charlotte Knights 1 (Statcast box)
There’s not a whole lot to say about this one, as the Red Wings absolutely demolished the Knights’ pitching. By the bottom of the fifth, the contest was already way out of hand with Rochester up 8-0. Evan McKendry got hammered for four tallies over just three frames, and Jairo Iriarte was even worse. The 23-year-old allowed four runs on four hits in only one inning. Not to be outdone, though, relievers Penn Murfee, Jared Shuster, and Cam Booser surrendered eight runs over their combined three frames. Yikes.
Charlotte’s lone tally came in the bottom of the ninth on a two-out Will Robertson solo shot. The Red Wings hurlers held the Knights to just five hits and one walk on the night. With the loss, they drop to 49-53 on the season.

Birmingham Barons 2, Rocket City Trash Pandas 0 (10 innings)
This was an unbelievable pitchers’ duel. Neither team scored a tally during regulation, but the Barons (58-39) came through in the top of the 10th for the win. With Rikku Nishida as the ghost runner on second, William Bergolla singled, putting runners on first and third with no one out. Then, Sam Antonacci grounded into a force out to drive home Nishida. Antonacci quickly swiped second, and Ryan Galanie plated him with a single to center for an insurance run for a 2-0 lead.

Shane Murphy pitched five shutout innings, yielding no walks on only three hits and striking out three. The arm barn of Tommy Vail, Mark McLaughlin, and Garrett Schoenle combined for five frames of one-hit ball. Schoenle, who came in to toss the ninth, stayed on the mound and shut the door in the tenth. He took just 11 pitches to retire the side in order to seal the victory.
Greenville Drive 5, Winston-Salem Dash 2 (Game 2/7 innings)
The Dash (33-53) fell to the Drive in a game where shaky pitching in the middle innings proved costly. Starter Jack Young impressed early, silencing the Drive through three hitless innings while fanning three. The momentum changed in the fourth, however. Carson Jacobs stepped in and surrendered a two-run homer, then allowed another run on a sacrifice fly, putting the Dash in a 3-0 hole. Jake Peppers entered in the fifth and gave up an additional run in the sixth, while Joseph Yabbour conceded another run in the seventh.

Offensively, the Dash showed flashes but couldn’t string together enough hits to overcome the deficit. Jacob Burke reached base twice on free passes and stole a base in the first. Jeral Perez led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a two-bagger, eventually coming around to score the Dash’s first run. In the fifth, Cole McConnell singled, and Michael Turner followed up with a double that drove in Burke, closing the gap to 3-2. Unfortunately, the Dash’s bats were quiet in the later frames, and they failed to mount any sort of comeback.
Winston-Salem Dash 8, Greenville Drive 4 (Game 1, Suspended from July 13)
A rain delay halted the game in the top of the third inning on July 13, with the score 2-1 in favor of Winston-Salem. The Dash plated their initial two tallies on a two-run blast by Alec Makarewicz in the first inning. After play resumed on July 29, the Drive came back to score two runs in the bottom of the third. However, W-S promptly answered with two runs in the top of the fourth, and then added two more in the fifth, all courtesy of just one hit. They manufactured the runs through a single, four walks, a hit-by-pitch, two wild pitches, and a throwing error.
In the top of the eighth inning, the Dash capitalized on more sloppy baseball. With the bases loaded after a single by Samuel Zavala and back-to-back free passes to Wilber Sánchez and Juan González, Erik Rivera hit Lyle Miller-Green. Makarewicz then knocked an RBI single in the top of the ninth for an insurance run.

Frankeli Arias was the original starter for the Dash and picked up right where he left off. The southpaw earned the win and a quality start. He tossed six frames and allowed three runs on seven hits, with one walk and three Ks. Jarold Rosado kept things tidy for his clean inning, and Phil Fox pitched the eighth and ninth to close it out.
Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 11, Delmarva Shorebirds 2
The Ballers (46-51) dominated the Shorebirds, wasting no time, scoring two runs in the first inning thanks to an RBI single from Arxy Hernández and a forceout that brought home Jordan Sprinkle. After the Shorebirds tied the game in the third, Kanny exploded for four tallies in the bottom of the frame, highlighted by a two-run single from Ronny Hernandez and a two-run base hit from Miguel Santos, putting them up 6-2. The offensive onslaught continued in the fourth, including an RBI-double by Caleb Bonemer, a two-run two-bagger from George Wolkow, and another tally on a wild pitch, pushing the lead to 10-2. In the fifth, Bonemer added an RBI single to cap off the scoring.
On the pitching side, Grant Umberger came out strong for the Cannon Ballers, allowing just one run through two innings before giving up another in the third. However, the bullpen effectively shut down the Shorebirds’ offense for the remainder of the game. Liam Paddack delivered a scoreless sixth, fanning one. Ethan Hammerberg followed with two frames and racked up four Ks. Pierce George closed out the contest in the ninth, yielding a walk but striking out two.
