Royals take series with 4-1 win over Guardians
A series win and a good start to the homestand
The Kansas City Royals used good pitching, situational hitting and a good eye at the plate to take the series from the Cleveland Guardians with a 4-1 win. They are now a half game back of the Guardians and 4-5 versus them this season.
The Royals are 52-54 on the season, heading into a monumental series against the scuffling Atlanta Braves.
A leadoff single, a hit batter and another single in the first eight pitches of the game from Noah Cameron and the Royals looked like they were in trouble. But Cameron would buckle down and get a shallow flyout to right field, a strikeout and a grounder back to him, where he made a great behind the back snag.
In the bottom of the first, Jonathan India would walk, Bobby Witt Jr. would hit a double, his MLB leading 34th. Vinnie Pasquantino and Maikel Garcia would each get RBI’s on groundouts and the Royals were up 2-0 early.
In the bottom of the 4th, John Rave would get a one out walk, before Luke Maile, the starting catcher hit a double to the gap to score Rave. Maile also called a great game behind the plate.
In the bottom of the 5th, Garcia would hit his 10th homer on the season, a no doubter to left field. Garcia finished the series with two triples and two homers.

Noah Cameron would go 5 innings, on a very hot and humid day. His final line was 5 innings, 3 hits, one walk and 6 strikeouts. He improves to 5-4 on the season, being the winning pitcher of record.
Hunter Harvey made his long-awaited return and mowed down the middle of the Guardians order on just 11 pitches. Angel Zerpa would surrender a solo homer to Gabriel Arias, who has hit 4 of his 7 homers on the season against the Royals. Zerpa would allow no more. Erceg worked around a two out single in the 8th for another scoreless appearance. Carlos Estevez would record his 27th save on the season after giving up a leadoff double.
The Royals were outhit 7 to 4 on the day, but they also walked seven times, that patient eye was very beneficial for them today. Rich Hill will get the ball tomorrow night to start the Braves series.
