Guardians 1 - Royals 4: Wrapping Up the Series with a Disappointing Loss
Eight left on base and 1-for-7 with RISP.
After splitting the double header yesterday, the Cleveland Guardians and the Kansas City Royals faced off in the last game of the series.
The Guards had a strong start that disappointingly, and quickly, fizzled out. Steven Kwan hit a lead off single to start the game. Angel Martínez was hit-by-pitch and José Ramírez hit a single of his own to load the bases. A flyout, strikeout, and groundout retired the next three batters, ruining the scoring potential.
The Royals answered similarly, but with more success. Joey Cantillo gave up a lead off walk followed by a double to right. A groundout scored one run and advanced the runner to third. The runner scored on another groundout, putting the Royals up 2-0. Cantillo gave up another run in the bottom of the fourth. A one-out walk and double scored another runner, giving Kansas City a 3-0 lead. Cantillo went 4.0IP, 3H, 3R/ER, 4BB, with 4Ks.
In the bottom of the fifth, Maikel Garcia hit a solo homer to left off of Matt Festa to give the Royals a very comfortable lead.
The Guards finally got on the board with a solo homer to right-center hit by Gabriel Arias.
The Guards couldn’t get the offense going after that. They lose 4-1 with 7H, 1BB, and 9K.
Cleveland will be coming back home to face the Colorado Rockies for a quick 3-game series.
