It’s Sunday, and if it’s Sunday, it’s Meet the Links.
In Mariners news...
- Larry Stone returned to recall some of his favorite Ichiro moments throughout his career.
- Ichiro himself prepared for his big day yesterday by doing what he always does; playing ball.
- Cal Raleigh hit a homerun last night. Ho-hum right? Cal’s 40th homerun makes him just the seventh catcher ever to have a 40 homerun season. He joined the club on July 26th. He remains on-pace to tie Aaron Judge’s American League record of 62. He’s also the second fastest ever to achieve 40-10 in a season, only five days slower than one Ken Griffey Jr.
Around the league...
- Reigning AL MVP Aaron Judge was not in the lineup for yesterday’s Yankees game, and everyone was extremely normal about it. Judge needed imaging on his elbow and the results revealed a flexor strain. Judge is going on the IL and the Yankees hope that he’ll only be there for the minimum of ten days.
- As their outfield depth thins with the Judge injury, the Yankees are continuing to stock up on infielders. The Yankees traded for third baseman Amed Rosario yesterday, potentially looking to platoon Rosario with the newly acquired Ryan McMahon.
- The Kansas City Royals acquired outfielder Randal Grichuk from the Arizona Diamondbacks yesterday in a slightly confusing transaction.
- Detroit Tigers legend Brewer Hicklen was traded to the Phillies yesterday.
Tigers have traded OF Brewer Hicklen to Phillies for cash considerations. Hicklen appeared in one game for Detroit, going for 2-for-3 with a walk, SB and 2 runs scored at Colorado, but spent most of season in Toledo. He was DFAed Wednesday to open a 40-man roster spot for Troy Melton.

- The Angels placed both Chris Taylor (broken hand) and Jorge Soler (lower back inflammation) on the IL yesterday. Thankfully for the Angels, Yoan Moncada is only considered day-to-day after taking a George Kirby fastball off his fingers in last night’s game.
- Rays pitcher Manuel Rodriguez will miss the rest of 2025 and likely the entirety of 2026 as he’ll be getting Tommy John surgery on August 8th.
- Paul Dejong is a science guy, and it turns out he has a study about the elasticity of baseballs in the Hall of Fame.
- Check out this cool piece from next Tuesday about a Japanese baseball board game from 1958.
