Royals 5, Guardians 3: Rocchio Brain Lapse, Clase Meltdown
A bad loss for a bad team
The Guardians lost in extra innings to the Royals, 5-3. This season isn't going anywhere.
Gavin Williams pitched well for six innings and only had trouble with Maikel Garcia who hit a 2-run homer off of him.
The Guardians didn't hit Michael Wacha well but managed to tie the game on a Bo Naylor double in the top of the seventh. They would have taken the lead if Brayan Rocchio were not the least intelligent baserunner I have ever encountered and decided that he should stop at second base on a fly ball that had 0 chance of being caught. He was thrown out at home by five feet by Bobby Witt, Jr.
The Guardians loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the 10th and scored one run on a Kyle Manzardo single. Carlos Santana is bad and struck out on a clear ball four, but he is old, so I get it. This team is also probably just bad.
Emmanuel Clase had four clear strikes called balls in the bottom of the 10th but then gave up a home run to Johnathan India which is pretty bad, but who knows if he would have been in the bottom of the ninth? And after I just noted how good he has been since May 1st.
The Guardians need to win these last two in Kansas City to have any shot at showing their front office that they could make the playoffs and do anything of note. As of now, they look like a bad team.
