WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup Day 2: night games underway
Day 2 of the WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup 2025 presented by RAXUS is underway at the Asia Pacific International Baseball Stadiums and Training Centre (ASPAC) in Tainan.
The USA defeated Czechia under light rain on ASPAC main field.
On the second field, Mexico defeated Germany. The game featured a historic all-girl pitching duel.
"This shows baseball is not only for boys," commented Mexico's Renee Murillo, the winning pitcher. "Seeing three girls in the tournament is significant. Baseball requires high-level skills. I believe we are all excellent athletes."
"I was happy I could pitch today," added Germany's Mona Brauch. "I was a little nervous, but in the end I had fun. Competing in the World Cup is a truly precious experience. I already played baseball against and with other girls, but Renee [the Mexican pitcher] is truly a good player."
Shotaro Hashimoto used 80 pitches (60 strikes) to pitch the first complete game of the tournament and help Japan shut out Cuba in front of a packed house at ASPAC second field at the end of an old-fashioned pitching duel with Yan Ramirez. As per the tournament regulations, Hashimoto won't be able to pitch until Thursday, July 31. Ramirez will have to rest for three days and will be available on Wednesday.
Panama outscored South Africa and earned the first win.
