Mets Select Pitcher Peter Kussow With Fourth-Round Pick
The Mets selected pitcher Peter Kussow in the fourth round (133rd overall) of the MLB draft on Monday, the only high school pitcher from Wisconsin invited to the draft combine of the 322 prospects in attendance.
Kussow, who is committed to Louisville, threw a no-hitter with 16 strikeouts on 93 pitches for Arrowhead (Wisconsin) High School this season. The 6-foot-5, 215-pound right-hander throws a fastball that has been clocked at 97 mph, but his best pitch is a high-spin slider. He also throws a curve and a change.

“I’ve been just from like 13 and 14 just this long, lanky kid that always has been able to throw a little bit harder,” he told Baseball Prospect Journal. “But then, going into my sophomore year, just kind of growing into my body, like really filling out my body more (led to me) seeing that development. It felt great to me, because it finally feels like all the hard work was paying off.”
Kussow was 4-1 with a 1.47 ERA in his senior year for Arrowhead, striking out 64 and walking nine in 33 1/3 innings, according to MaxPreps. Click here to see a video of him in action.
The signing bonus value of the pick is $555,800, and Kussow is expected to sign for an overslot bonus. The Mets’ bonus pool is $5.4 million.
