Maiker Pimentel named WBSC Men's Softball World Cup MVP

Venezuelan pitcher Maiker Pimentel was named Most Valuable Player of the WBSC Men's Softball World Cup Finals, after leading his team the the first World Cup in the history of the South American nation. The WBSC also announced the All-World Team, with six countries represented in the team.

Pimentel pitched 34 innings across six games, posting a 4-1 record with a 2.88 ERA. He posted a 1.06 WHIP. The right-handed pitcher led the tournament in wins (4) and strikeouts (58).

"Honestly, I didn’t expect it. When I heard my name, I felt joy and excitement," said Pimentel after the closing ceremony. "It was something amazing, something I’d always dreamed of—and my moment finally came. Thank God, I’m very happy."

The All-World Team was:

  • C - Rafael Flores (VEN)
  • 1B - Seth Gibson (NZL)
  • 2B - Angel Adames (VEN)
  • 3B - Riley James (AUS)
  • SS - Cam Schiller (USA)
  • OF - Koki Sato (JPN)
  • OF - Ben Enoka (NZL)
  • OF - Tei Hamamoto (JPN)
  • DP - Jendry Torres (DOM)

During the closing ceremony, the individual leaders were also awarded: 

  • Leading Hitter: Jendry Torres (B-AVE .692) DOM
  • Best ERA: Huemul Mata (2.06 ERA) ARG
  • Best Win-Loss Record: Hiroki Ikeda (3 W – 0 L) JPN
  • Most RBIs: Blake Hunter (11 RBI) CAN
  • Most Home Runs: Mathieu Roy (4 HR) CAN
  • Most Stolen Bases: Alan Peker (3 SB) ARG
  • Most Runs Scored: Nick White (6 Runs) CAN
  • Best Defensive Player: Cole Evans NZL
