Guardians News and Notes: Last One Before the Break AND the Draft
News and Notes for Sunday, July 13th, 2025
The Guardians beat the White Sox yesterday, as they should. Today, will be the final game before the break, as they see old friend Aaron Civale at 2:10PM EDT. Then, MLB Draft coverage starts at 6pm.
For more on the Guardians’ win yesterday, read Zach’s recap here. Highlight for me was seeing Kyle Manzardo finally connect on a homer. His plate discipline has been solid lately; just needs to get that ball in the air more often.
Tanner Bibee was solid and Erik Sabrowski was SENSATIONAL (striking out all four batters he faced).
The MLB Futures’ game went fine for Guardians’ prospects, Parker Messick who had a scoreless inning with a hit and a walk and CJ Kayfus who went 0 for 2 with a walk. C.C. Sabathia hit a BOMB in the celebrity softball game and was the game’s MVP:
Still got it

The Guardians will have five picks tonight in day one of the MLB Draft, #27, #64, #66, #70, and #101. They will have a little over $10 million to spend. You can follow along on CTC for Draft Coverage, starting with a Draft Thread at 6pm and our Brian Hemminger will be providing articles analyzing each of the first five picks as they come through. You can watch the draft on ESPN/MLB.com/MLB Network.
In Kiley McDaniel's third mock for ESPN, he predicts the Guardians draft two prep shortstop with their first two picks - Tate Southisene and Jordan Yost. Then a college lefty in Cade Obermueller of Iowa and Aiden Stillman, a prep lefty to finish out the second round. McDaniel says the Guardians are hard to read and may target a college bat if Andrew Fischer, Devin Taylor or Kane Kepley fall to them. He also mentions Aaron Watson and Dax Kipley for #27. He says to look for Miguel Sime Jr, Jase Mitchell, Cade Crossland and Luke Hill for their later picks. So, there are some names to Google if (like me) you're not locked into the college and high school game.
Chase DeLauter was a late scratch for Columbus on Saturday. Cleveland Guardians’ Prospective on Twitter reported that the team decided to give DeLauter an extended break for the All-Star break. Here’s where you decide why: 1. Because they plan to call him up on 7/18 and want him to stay healthy until then? or 2. His soreness persists and they are hoping a longer reset will help him get ahead of that? I would say Occam’s Razor indicates #2. I think it’s still silly because DeLauter could be up in Cleveland playing four days a week with no noticeable effect on the current roster if he replaces Johnathan Rodriguez. But, what do I know? I am at the point where I do not expect him to debut until August 1st. You broke me, Antonetti.
Hey, Jose Ramirez is 2 homers short of 20 and 1 steal short of 30. Let’s see him get to both marks by the end of the day, huh? That would make for a great end to the first part of this season in my humble opinion. Enjoy a fun day, Guardians fans!
