"He will take the break to recuperate, rest and prepare for the second half."
The Mariners announced via a short press release this morning that center fielder Julio Rodríguez will be passing on participating in the 2025 MLB All-Star Game. This comes on the heels of much discussion the past week and a half by fans on social media who do not understand how WAR works, questioning the legitimacy of Rodríguez’s third ASG selection.
As many commenters have noted, this is likely a net positive for the team and for Rodríguez who in addition to dealing with frustrations at the plate this season, also had to deal with a very scary and invasive burglary at his home barely two months ago. While an ASG selection is certainly an incredible honor, taking some time off midseason to catch up on life and rest a bit seems like a pretty good call to me.
Julio just dropped his own statement on the matter:
Thank you for all the support

No replacement has been named yet for Rodríguez’s spot, but we’ll probably that information shortly.
