Some fortuitous (intentional?) teammate behavior and fortune.

MLB and the Seattle Mariners announced Friday that outfielder Randy Arozarena has been named to the American League All-Star Team. The selection of Arozarena comes as the reserve replacement for the most recent AL player at his position to drop from the roster, who just so happens to be his teammate, OF Julio Rodríguez. Earlier in the day, Julio and the Mariners announced the 24 year old would be electing to rest and recuperate in lieu of traveling to Atlanta for the festivities.

The move by Rodríguez opened an outfield slot, with the next pick in the AL by the players voting apparently being Seattle’s red-hot left fielder. The 30 year old outfielder was an All-Star once before, in 2023 with the Tampa Bay Rays. He’s accrued 3.2 bWAR/2.4 fWAR and a .247/.354/.446 line good for a 132 wRC+, potent numbers while having to hit in Seattle. Arozarena is the fifth M’s All-Star this year, though with Julio stepping aside, just four will make the trip. Congratulations, Randy.
