Crusaders in Action Return to Guatemala
A group of Alice Lloyd College and June Buchanan School faculty, staff, and students joined in a mission to Guatemala this June. This marked the second partnership between the group and Catalyst Resources Incorporated to meet needs, serve others, and spread the gospel in Guatemala. The ALC, JBS group, the Crusaders in Action (CIA), sponsored by Fontaine and Paula Greene, constructed homes, provided health services, and built lasting memories and relationships through Christ.
In addition to meeting the physical and spiritual needs of the locals, the CIA learned lessons and formed strong bonds. The opportunity to serve others encouraged the participants to, “get out of their comfort zones,” and “brought out the leaders in all of us,” says trip organizer Kassi Marshall. She says the group formed lasting bonds with each other, friendships and mentorships that will last a lifetime.
“I’ve always felt a strong desire to serve others,” said ALC graduate Hannah Stidham, who joined nearly two dozen other volunteers from Pippa Passes. “When I heard about the opportunity to travel to Guatemala and help communities in need, I knew it was something I wanted to be a part of.”
Stidham recalled one event from this year’s trip that made an impact on her. “One of the most meaningful moments was being able to go to the house and meet the family I have been sponsoring for over a year. They were so grateful and emotional. It made me realize how something that seems so small to us could have a huge impact on someone else’s life.”
This year’s participants ranged from students as young as fifth grade to folks as old as eighty. “Our teams were unique in various ages, occupations and life experiences,” Kassi Marshall commented. “Seeing our JBS students side by side with ALC students, staff, and faculty is a fun way to connect our campus family. It’s fun to watch the older students interact and form friendships with our younger students. We’ve been a big family serving together which strengthens our Pippa family.”
CIA has plans to return to Guatemala in May of 2026 to continue their volunteer efforts. If you would like to support a future mission with Catalyst Resources International, you can contact the Crusaders In Action or Kassi Marshall on Facebook, or Catalyst Resources International via their website, catalystresources.net. If you want to help, but you can’t personally go on a trip, you can donate towards projects and even help fund the construction of homes for well-deserving families! If you desire, you can sponsor an ALC or JBS student to assist with their expenses. Most of all, everyone can pray for CRI, the beautiful Guatemalan people they serve and missionaries all around the world!
