David Peterson Named to All-Star Team
MLB announced Thursday that Mets’ LHP David Peterson was added to the NL All-Star team. He took the place of San Francisco Giants’ pitcher Robbie Ray, who will start on Sunday and will not play in Tuesday’s festivities. Peterson joins fellow teammates Francisco Lindor (and NL starting shortstop!), Pete Alonso and Edwin Díaz as representatives for New York.
It’s Peterson’s first All-Star nod and comes amid a career year for the 29-year-old. In 18 games for the Mets in 2025, the southpaw is 6-4 with a 3.06 ERA through 109 innings. Peterson has struck out 93 batters and allowed 37 walks. He pitched his first complete game, a shutout, against the Nationals on June 11. The southpaw ranks in the 94th percentile in ground ball percentage (57%), and he lands in the 87th percentile in offspeed value and 84th percentile in breaking value on his pitches.
Debuting with the Mets in 2020, the former first-round pick owns a career 3.88 ERA in 119 games with New York. His 557 strikeouts put him 10th all-time for strikeouts by a left-handed pitcher, a feat accomplished the day he was announced an All-Star. A 2023 hip surgery completely turned Peterson’s career around, and he’s been leading the Mets as the ace of their pitching staff ever since.
