Morning Briefing: Yankees DFA LeMahieu

Good morning, Mets fans!

On Wednesday afternoon, the New York Yankees cut ties with one of the mainstays of their roster for the better part of the last decade. After seven years in the Bronx, the Yankees DFA’d INF DJ LeMahieu after another rough start to the 2025 season. LeMahieu received a six-year, $90 million deal after the 2020 season where he finished third in AL MVP voting, following up a 2019 campaign where he ranked fourth in MVP voting.

The former Rockie only eclipsed the 100 OPS+ mark once after signing said extension, hitting a career low -1.3 WAR in 2024. With another year on the contract, the Yankees owe LeMahieu $22 million over the next two seasons.

In Mets land, the middle game of their three-game set down in Baltimore was postponed and will be played as a split doubleheader on Thursday. David Peterson (6-4, 3.18 ERA) will start the 12:05 p.m. game, while the Mets have not announced the start for the 5:05 p.m. nightcap.
