A division rival has claimed pitcher Tyler Zuber off waivers from the Mets.
The Miami Marlins announced they have claimed Zuber, a 30-year-old right-hander, who the Mets initially acquired at last year’s trade deadline from the Rays for right-hander Paul Gervase. Zuber spent the majority of his time in the Mets organization at Triple-A Syracuse.
Zuber made just one relief appearance for New York this season—on June 22 at Philadelphia, logging two innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits, striking out three, and exiting with a 9.00 ERA and 1.50 WHIP. New York optioned him on June 23 after recalling him just two days earlier; he was later designated for assignment on Saturday.

In Triple-A Syracuse this season, Zuber posted a 6.11 ERA across 28 innings pitched.
Throughout four major league seasons while spending time with the Royals, Rays, and Mets, Zuber has appeared in 56 games, compiling a 1‑5 record with a 5.27 ERA and 62 strikeouts across 54 2/3 innings.
Zuber is known for his mid-90s fastball, which features above-average spin and induced vertical break. He also features a cutter, sweeper and changeup. Despite limited major‑league success, he brings swing‑and‑miss potential, posting a strikeout rate above 10 per inning in the minors and majors.
The right-hander will kick off his Marlins tenure in Triple-A Jacksonville.
Zuber heads to Jacksonville aiming to revive his career and earn another shot at the majors.
