After consistently remaining within striking distance of .500 for many weeks, the Knights have finally gotten even. After Sunday’s game against Jacksonville (53-33) got postponed, Charlotte’s 3-2 week against the mighty Jumbo Shrimp came to a close.
Shortstop Jacob Amaya, 26, was firing on all cylinders for the Knights. Amaya went 5-for-13 with two homers, a double three walks, five RBIs, and a stolen base in his only attempt. That level of production does not come often for a defense-first shortstop, but Amaya pulled it off this week. Well done to Amaya, who earned his second Knight of the Week award.

The Barons stumbled a bit against Chattanooga (43-34), dropping four of six on the road this week.
Starting pitcher Tanner McDougal, 22, was fantastic yet again, and he earned his second straight Baron of the Week award. McDougal shut down the Lookouts with six scoreless innings on Saturday, only allowing two hits along the way. McDougal also struck out six without issuing any walks, and he only needed 76 pitches to get through those six frames. McDougal opened the year with Winston-Salem, where he posted a 3.28 ERA and a 3.63 FIP in 57 ⅔ innings before getting promoted on June 18. Since then, McDougal has been even more impressive, posting a 1.27 ERA and a 2.00 FIP in 21 ⅓ innings since the promotion. McDougal is really heating up, as he has only allowed one run on 10 in his last 16 innings.

The Dash have now had back-to-back 1-5 weeks, as they had a tough time in Hub City against the Spartanburgers (40-40).
Although the team had a rough series as a whole, outfielder Samuel Zavala, 20, was quite an obstacle for Hub City. Zavala went 5-for-17 with a homer, a double, five RBIs, and five walks. Zavala led the team in OPS this week by a wide margin, at .984, while Matt Hogan was No. 2, with .833. Zavala’s home run was only one of two blasts for the Dash this week, while Jeral Perez hit the only other one. Zavala’s overall slash line is (.234/.331/.366) is not special. However, it is worth noting that Zavala got off to a slow start but has been trending in the right direction since early May.

Kannapolis is off to a cold start in the second half, and that downward spiral continued with a 2-4 week against the Crawdads (44-36).
Shortstop Caleb Bonemer, 19, had another excellent week to win his second Cannon Baller of the Week award. Bonemer, who was born on the same day of the South Siders’ 5-4 victory in the 2005 ALDS, finished 7-for-21 with two homers. Bonemer added two doubles and a walk to those impressive numbers to end the week with a 1.078 OPS. Bonemer is slashing .269/.392/.434 in 69 games with Kannapolis, and he is having a great start to his professional career.

The ACL White Sox finally had a losing week, dropping three of five, but they are still performing quite well overall.
Outfielder Drake Logan, 24, displayed an excellent ability to make sharp contact to win this week’s ACL Sox of the Week award. Logan started the season with the Winston-Salem Dash, but he suffered an injury on April 16. Logan has played for the ACL White Sox since June 24 on a rehab assignment. This week, Logan went 7-for-19 with a triple, two doubles, and a stolen base in his only attempt. The White Sox selected Logan in the 19th round in 2022, and he made a sizable step forward with Kannapolis in 2024. Last year, he slashed .266/.328/.430, which was enough to open the year with the Dash. It will be interesting to see if he can continue to be an on-base machine. On his rehab assignment, Logan is slashing .314/.385/.514 in 35 at-bats overall.

Things were not clicking this week for the DSL White Sox, who only managed to get one victory in five games.
Outfielder Christian Gonzalez, 18, is not letting up, as he could hardly be kept off base this week, too. Gonzalez went 4-for-13 with a double and five walks to provide a major spark for an offense that desperately needed it. Gonzalez is slashing .431/.554/.615 overall, as he has been very consistent early on.
Yobal Rodriguez, 17, who has also already won a weekly award, was nearly perfect during his four innings of work, so he deserves honorable mention. This is the first professional season for Rodriguez, and mercy, what a start. Rodriguez has not allowed any runs yet, and he has only allowed four hits in 18 2⁄3 innings.
