Puerto Rico Double-A League Carnival of Champions opens on Thursday, July 3
The Baseball Federation of Puerto Rico (FBPR) announced that the Superior Double-A League's Carnival of Champions (Carnaval de Campeones) will open on Thursday, July 3, at the Juan José Tití Beníquez Stadium in San Sebastián with a game between the San Sebastian Patrulleros and the Peñuelas Petroleros.
The Carnival of Champions is a round-robin involving the winners of the eight Divisions. San Sebastian won the Northwest Division and Peñuelas led the Southwest Division.
The other Division champions are Plata de Comerio Pescadores (Central Division), Juncos Mulos (East Division), Salinas Peces Voladores (South Division), Patilla Leones (Southeastern Division), Camuy Arenosos (North Division) and Dorado Guardianes (Metro Division). They will take the field on Friday, July 4.
The Mulos have 10 Double-A league titles, the most among the participants in the Carnival of Champion.
FBPR also announced the season's individual awards.
José Pocholo Rivera, the Plata del Comerio Pescadores starting third baseman, is the 2024-25 season MVP. He led the league in RBIs (32) and home runs (8) and had a .373 batting average.
Eduardo Dávila (Caguas Criollos) earned the Manager of the Year award in his first year in the league.
Antonio Brown (Ponce Cachorros) was voted the Rookie of the Year.
Luis Leroy Criz (Plata del Comerio Pescadores) was named the Pitcher of the Year. Felix Cruz (Cabo Rojo Piratas) was named the Reliever of the Year.
