Morning Briefing: Jesse Winker Makes Rehab Appearance

0 3

Good morning, Mets fans!

Jesse Winker returned to action for the first time since landing on the injured list with a Grade 2 right oblique strain on May 5. He appeared as a designated hitter for the Brooklyn Cyclones, batting second. In one official at bat, Winker went 1-for-1 with a RBI double and a walk. The Mets placed Winker on the 10-day IL on May 5 but recently transferred him to the 60-day IL on June 24 to make room for Frankie Montas. This move doesn’t effect Winker’s return date, which is TBD entering Monday.

The Mets had a less-than-ideal weekend road trip to Pittsburgh. They got swept by the Pirates, who entered the series as the lowest-scoring team in the National League. The Mets were outscored in the series by a margin of 30-4. That is the most lopsided series in Mets history, as Gary Cohen mentioned on the broadcast. Check out the recap here.

The Mets will have a much-needed off-day on Monday before hosting the Brewers for a series. This will be no easy test, as the Brewers are 8-2 in their last 10 games. The first pitch will be Tuesday at 7:10 p.m. as Freddy Peralta (8-4, 2.90 ERA) faces off against Clay Holmes (8-4, 2.97 ERA).

Francisco Alvarez continued his hot-hitting in Triple-A, smacking his second home run in as many days.
