Mariners Game #78 Preview: 6/24/25, SEA at MIN
Game two of this long four-game set
The Mariners broke out the bats and romped all over Bailey Ober and the Twins last night, bringing some of that Wrigley offensive production up north with them. After seeing a bunch of changeups from Ober last night, the Mariners are in for another changeup-heavy menu from tonight’s starter Chris Paddack. Paddack shut the Mariners down over eight innings last time these teams matched up earlier in the month, allowing just one run on four hits over eight innings with a season high—and heavy outlier—10 strikeouts.
Lineups:
Jorge Polanco gets an off-day, and Randy Arozarena gets a DH day, with Raley taking over left field. Donovan Solano gets the start at first base.
Lineup.

Today in Mariners History:
- 1997 - Randy Johnson sets an AL record for strikeouts by a left-handed pitcher, striking out 19 Athletics in a 4-1 loss vs. Oakland.
- 1998 - Ken Griffey Jr. belts HR #30 on the year and joins Mark McGwire as the only player with 30 homers before the break, a feat that would be repeated almost thirty years later by Cal Raleigh. When Cal belted his 30th home run two days ago in Wrigley, Cal joined Babe Ruth (2x, 1928, ‘30), Ken Griffey Jr. (2x, 1994, ‘98), Sammy Sosa (2x, 1998-99), Mark McGwire (1998), Barry Bonds (2001), Luis Gonzalez (2001), Albert Pujols (2009), Chris Davis (2013), Shohei Ohtani (2023) and Aaron Judge (2024) as the only players with 30+ HR before July, and is the first catcher to do so.
