Wild cards confirmed for WBSC Youth Baseball5 World Cup 2025
The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) announced the three Wild Cards for the WBSC Youth Baseball5 World Cup 2025, which will take place in Mexico from 24-27 September, with world No. 5 Tunisia, No. 10 China and No. 20 Spain the recipients.
Tunisia claimed third place at the Youth Baseball5 African Championship in January behind Ghana and Kenya while Spain finished fourth in the U-18 Baseball5 European Championship last year after Lithuania, Türkiye and France claimed the top three spots. China, who finished fifth in 2023, received the third wild card as a strong sign of Baseball5's great potential to support Baseball/Softball's development in the country with the possibility of boosting participation to millions of new athletes
With just 100 days to go until the second edition of the WBSC Youth Baseball5 World Cup, Baseball5 continues to gain ground worldwide with the upcoming World Cup clear proof of this growth, becoming the first global event in the discipline to include 16 teams.
Thirteen of the 16 teams have now secured their spot in the WBSC Youth Baseball5 World Cup 2025:
- World No. 4 Japan, No. 2 Chinese Taipei and No. 11 Korea qualified as the top three finishers at the II Youth Baseball5 Asia Cup.
- World No. 7 Lithuania, No. 12 Türkiye and No. 3 France earned their spots through the U-18 Baseball5 European Championship in November 2024.
- No. 13 Ghana and No. 15 Kenya qualified via the Youth Baseball5 African Championship in January.
- WBSC Oceania has announced that Fiji will also join the tournament.
- No. 16 Mexico qualifies as the host nation.
- Wild Cards - World No. 5 Tunisia, No. 10 China and No. 20 Spain
The three teasm from the Americas will be announced in the near future.
Cuba, the reigning champions, won the World Title in Türkiye in 2023, with France taking silver and Mexico earning bronze.
