Civale makes his South Side debut as the Texas road trip closes out

Happy Sunday and Happy Father’s Day! Today, the Chicago White Sox will close out their trip to the Lone Star State as they play their final game against the Texas Rangers and try to avoid the series sweep.

Although the last two losses have been close, Chicago hasn’t been able to close it out. Today could be a fresh start for Aaron Civale and the team, as he makes his debut against Kumar Rocker.

Civale was acquired two days ago from the Milwaukee Brewers in a random, shocking trade that sent Andrew Vaughn packing to Wisconsin. Civale spent half of 2024 with the Brew Crew, and all of 2025 up until this point; that all changed when Civale was bumped from the rotation and he requested a trade. The righty started the season in late May after a hamstring strain, and since then he is 1-2 with a 4.91 ERA and 19 strikeouts.

Rocker is on the mound for the Rangers, sporting a 1-4 record and rough 8.87 ERA/1.84 WHIP. Rocker was drafted three years ago as the third overall pick out of Vanderbilt, and has a high ceiling as a 25-year-old. He was just called up from Triple-A today, as he has been up and down due to injury. Unfortunately, he has not necessarily lived up to standards, but the signs are there. His last outing against the Tampa Bay Rays was short-lived as he went 3 1⁄3 innings pitched with six hits, five runs, two walks, and five strikeouts.

Luis Robert Jr. will get the day off as he battles thumb soreness and is day-to-day. Game time is at 1:35 p.m. CT. Watch on CHSN or listen in at ESPN 1000.
