WBSC U-15 Women's Softball World Cup Trophy reaches Lombardy Government headquarters

The WBSC U-15 Women's Softball World Cup 2025 will open in 15 days in Caronno Pertusella and Legnano in Lombardy, Italy. The Region's Government welcomed the tournament trophy during a press conference on Thursday, June 12.

"The Lombardy Region made this possible with their support," said Marco Mazzieri, the Italian Baseball and Softball Federation President. "Hosting the event was no easy task, and today we are here to thank the Region as well as Minister of Sport Andrea Abody and the local governments in Caronno Pertusella and Legnano."

On behalf of Governor Attilio Fontana, Federica Picchi, Deputy Commissioner for Sports and Youth, congratulated FIBS. "We believe in the power of women's sport and are aware of how many young girls softball attracts in the region. When President Mazzieri expressed his need for support, we encouraged him to pursue it. Our region needed an event like this to promote inclusion and the highest value of sports."

Alessandra Metta, who will captain Italy at the World Cup, unveiled the Trophy together with Picchi and former Italian National Team star and manager Marino Centrone, who is also FIBS Vice-President.

"I felt emotional," said Metta. "I cannot believe I will compete in a World Cup in Italy. We have some new players, but I believe we will compete."

Centrone added, "We are aware of the World Cup level, but we also trust our girls. Playing the World Cup on home soil is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The girls understand this. For us as the National Federation, it will be an invaluable opportunity to promote softball."

Marco Grassi, FIBS Lombardy Commissioner, reminded that the Trophy Tour will end on June 22 in Saronno and that the Italian National Team official uniform will be presented on the occasion.
