The Yankees infielder complains about a tag from last night’s game.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. made himself public enemy #1 last fall when the Yankees faced the Royals in the American League Divisional Series. He said the Royals were “lucky” to win Game 2, then called Maikel Garcia a “sore loser”, accusing him of trying to hurt Anthony Volpe on an aggressive slide.

The next chapter in the ongoing beef occurred on Tuesday evening. With the Yankees up 5-1 in the sixth, Chisholm stole third base. The throw was headed towards Chisholm’s head, where Garcia snagged it and applied a hard tag, only for the ball to get away.

But Chisholm did not take kindly to the tag. Upon getting up, he told Yankees third base coach Luis Rojas that if Garcia tagged him like that again, he would take matters into his own hands.

Chisholm exited the game with a neck strain. After the game, Chisholm said he was “frustrated” that whenever there was a problem, Garcia was involved.

For his part, Garcia said he was “just doing his job.” As for Chisholm’s comments that he would smack Garcia if he applied another tag like that, Garcia simply responded, “I’m waiting for it,” and that “It’s just talk.”

Royals fans rained boos upon Chisholm every time he came to the plate. But so far he’s backed up his big words - the Yankees have won all three games at Kauffman Stadium since he called the Royals lucky.

The Royals and Yankees square off tonight at 6:40 CT.
