Luisangel Acuña is starting at shortstop in place of Lindor, and hitting ninth. Much like Mookie Betts, his counterpart on Los Angeles, Lindor intends to play through the injury.
“I’m day-by-day,” Lindor said describing the injury that occurred after he was hit by a Tony Gonsolin slider in the first inning, “Hopefully I feel good enough to play sooner rather than later.”
It will be a pain management issue with Lindor, who said he’s dealing with a lot of it. According to Newsday’s Laura Albanese, Lindor was walking with a limp through the clubhouse ahead of first pitch.
When asked if he would be available to pinch-hit if needed today, Lindor responded with a coy smile.
“I don’t want to reveal the team secrets,” he said.
Lindor has only missed one game this season, which was for the birth of his son, Koa, back on March 31. The 31-year-old missed just one game when he suffered a fractured finger in Los Angeles in 2022.
