Game #62: A’s vs. Twins Game Thread
Desperate for a win
The A’s will get another chance to snap their losing streak tonight in the second of four games against the Twins. At 23-38 things are getting dire and the panic button has been pressed so a win tonight would be massive for this young club.
They waited until the last possible moment to announce the starting pitcher but just a couple hours or so before first pitch the team announced that relief pitcher Grant Holman would open the game today for the Athletics, followed fellow reliever Justin Sterner and then by left-hander Jacob Lopez who will act as the bulk pitcher tonight.
Jacob Lopez will follow out of the bullpen tonight. A’s also want to give Grant Holman and Justin Sterner a “softer landing spot” and break from high leverage situations.

No Jacob Wilson in there tonight but it’s just a breather and the future AL ROTY said he expects to be back in the starting lineup tomorrow. Max Schuemann will take his place in the field and batting ninth.
Elsewhere Tyler Soderstrom is back at first base for the second consecutive day while outfielder JJ Bleday gets his first start since returning to the team from his demotion. And third base will be manned by rookie Logan Davidson. The rest of the lineup looks how you’d expect with all the regulars in there for what the A’s hope will be their 24th win of the season.
The Twins’ starting pitcher for tonight will be co-ace Pablo Lopez. After a solid but average year with the Twins last season the 29-year-old Lopez has bounced back and is in the midst of his best season since 2021. This season in 10 starts he has a 2.75 ERA, which leads the team.
