Section VI baseball champions: Niagara Falls, Williamsville East, Amherst, Medina, Gowanda, Franklinville

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- Baseball teams from Niagara Falls, Williamsville East, Amherst, Medina, Gowanda and Franklinville qualified for the NYSPHSAA tournament by winning Section VI championships.

Trevor Meidenbauer pitched a one-hitter and Dominic Puleo knocked in the go-ahead runs as Niagara Falls beat Lancaster 5-2 in Class AAA to claim its first sectional title since the school opened in 2000.

Jaxson Lichner tossed a four-hitter and helped his cause at the plate with two hits and an RBI to lead Williamsville East over Frontier 5-0 in Class AA.

Tyler Wesolowski, R.J. Rybicki and Danny Gardner each had three RBIs for Amherst in its 18-0 route of Dunkirk for the Class A title.

Brody Fry's no-hitter with 13 strikeouts was the highlight of sectional Saturday, leading Medina to a 4-0 win against Southwestern. Tyler Kroening batted in two runs and Careter Woodworth had two hits for the Mustangs (21-1), state finalists a year ago who are currently ranked No. 3 in the state.

Blake Herman pitched a one-hit shutout for Gowanda in a 3-0 victory against Frewsburg for the Class C crown.

In the Class D final, Bretton Blecha's complete game lifted Franklinville to 6-1 win against Brocton.

Section VI champions advance to Far West Regional playoff games on Friday and Saturday against opponents from Section V. The higher classification games will be played at Innovative Field in Rochester, while the Class B and C games will be played at Dwyer Stadium in Batavia, and Class D at McDonough Park in Geneva.
