Minors Game Thread: Tong, Montas Take the Mound

While the Mets await the Rockies’ arrival in Flushing, it’s a big day on the mound for the team’s minor league affiliates. In Bowie, Jonah Tong takes the mound for Binghamton in the first game of a doubleheader, while in Brooklyn, Frankie Montas will make his second rehab appearance.

Earlier today, the FCL Mets fell to the Astros’ squad 6-3 despite three hits from Bohan Adderley.

The 23-year-old had his longest outing of the season in his start, allowing three runs and five hits over 6 2/3 innings, walking one and striking out two against Rochester. Ronny Mauricio has hit in all six games he’s played for Syracuse, going 12-for-21 with two homers and six RBIs.

Tong struggled with his command in his last outing, issuing four walks in as many innings, but he was able to hold Richmond to just two runs and two hits with six strikeouts. Since April 23, Tong has a 1.08 ERA with 54 strikeouts over 25 innings.

Joander Suarez will take the mound in the nightcap. Suarez will look to bounce back from a rough outing last Friday, when he was tagged for four runs on eight hits by Richmond.

Channing Austin will take the hill for St. Lucie. Austin pitched well in his start, holding Jupiter to one run on three hits, walking one and striking out four in four innings. After a rough April, Austin has a 3.24 ERA in 16 2/3 innings in May.
