Royals call up John Rave
Cavan Biggio is optioned out.
The Royals announced they have called up outfielder John Rave and optioned Cavan Biggio to Triple-A Omaha. Rave was hitting .301/.382/.549 with 9 home runs and 17 stolen bases in 44 games at Omaha.
Rave was originally a fifth-round pick in 2019 out of Illinois State. The left-handed hitting outfielder was in Triple-A by 2022, but his career stalled out a bit in the upper minors. Last year he seemed to turn a corner, hitting .259/.346/.470 with 21 home runs and 17 steals in Omaha. The 27-year-old has been on a tear lately, hitting .353/.429/.682 with seven home runs in 21 games in the month of May.
Biggio was signed as a minor league free agent and started on Opening Day. He provided positional versatility and a 13 percent walk rate, but hit just .174/.296/.246 in 37 games. Biggio has five years of MLB service time, so he no longer has options remaining, but he can consent to an option if he wishes. Anne Rogers reports he can accept an optional assignment or elect free agency in the next few days.
