News and Notes for Thursday, May 22nd, 2025.

The Cleveland Guardians are finally back in the win column, splitting the double header yesterday with the Minnesota Twins. Monday’s game was suspended after three complete innings due to rain. It was then scheduled for a double header on Tuesday, which was postponed to yesterday. The game picked up at the top of the fourth, still raining, Carlos Santana hit a solo shot to tie the game, but a walk off from the Twins left the Guards with another loss and less than an hour to reset for Game 2.

Reset they did. The Guards rallied behind top of the order success to beat the Twins 5-1 before heading over Detroit to face the Tigers.

The Guardians will start Game 1 of the 3 game series against the Tigers. Tanner Bibee and Jack Flaherty will face off with a 6:40 PM EDT first pitch.

FanGraphs released their list of Guardians’ top prospects, with shortstop Angel Genao topping the bunch. The top 10 is 1. Genao 50 Future Value, 2. Bazzana 50 FV, 3. DeLauter 50 FV, 4. Longenhagen says the system is above average with its strength being its depth rather than it’s top-end talents.

The Columbus Clippers had themselves a great game! They beat the Iowa Cubs 14-5 behind a 10-run 3rd inning home run derby.
