A’s roster moves: JT Ginn activated, Anthony Maldonado optioned
Tonight’s starter rejoins the roster
The Athletics announced a roster move just a few hours before their series against the Angels gets underway, activating young right-hander JT Ginn off the injured list to make tonight’s start against Los Angeles:
The Athletics have reinstated right-handed pitcher J.T. Ginn from the 15-day injured list and optioned right-handed pitcher Anthony Maldonado to Triple-A Las Vegas.

To make room on the roster the club elected to option right-handed reliever Anthony Maldonado back to Triple-A after just one appearance with the big league squad.
The 25-year-old Ginn rejoins the starting rotation after a short stay on the IL with elbow inflammation. That is always an ominous sounding diagnosis and he does have a Tommy John surgery already on his ledger. This represents the best possible outcome for Ginn and the team as the righty is seemingly out of the woods and avoided a major arm injury. It’s unclear if he’ll be on a pitch count tonight in his first game back but he got up to 64 pitches in his lone rehab outing during which he tossed 3 1⁄3 scoreless innings.
The right-handed Maldonado only made one relief outing for the Athletics, allowing two runs to the Giants during Friday night’s blowout loss. He’ll now return to Triple-A and remain ready for whenever the club needs an extra arm in the bullpen. We likely haven’t seen the last of him with the big league team this year.
