#SafeCall: WBSC launches new Safeguarding video for 2025
The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) has strengthened its commitment to safeguarding by publishing a video, which will also be shown at each WBSC event in 2025, as part of its Integrity Unity’s #SafeCall campaign.
The 30-second video is an initiative driven by the WBSC Athletes’ Commission aimed at reinforcing the importance of safeguarding for all WBSC players, coaches and officials, especially at the youngest age groups, and protecting the rights and best interests of athletes.
WBSC Athlete Representative Ayako Rokkaku said: "When I was at the U-12 Baseball World Cup in Tainan two years ago, I realised that it was difficult for young athletes to understand the importance of this topic. I thought it would be nice to present the safeguarding education in a more youth-friendly way, if possible, in multiple languages."
The WBSC Integrity Unit has published the video in English, Spanish, Japanese and Chinese, and the video will be in addition to the Safeguarding Officers, who have been present at all WBSC events since 2021 to listen to the voices of athletes in need of help and provide support, ensuring respect for their privacy.
As part of the #SafeCall campaign, the WBSC Integrity Unit has distributed separate guidelines to all stakeholders involved in WBSC events, including athletes, officials, staff, and athletes' entourages. The guidelines are also available in multiple languages to ensure that young athletes who are not fluent in English understand the meaning of abuse and the systems and processes in place should such an incident occur.
If you need help, you can contact the WBSC Safeguarding Officers on duty at events or email them at safeguarding@wbsc.org.
